Damage tolerance: It is also well known that, as tube sizes get smaller, a point is eventually reached where "theoretical" tube walls become too thin to be damage tolerant. The industry's response to this has been to esatblish a minimum wall thikness (usually .018 in) below which tibing cannot be used in aircraft. This establishes a "breakpoint" at which the tubing seases to follow the constant D/t ratio rule and the tube walls become a constant. This "breakpoint" usually occurs at or around 3/8 in diameter. Because of the constant wall thikness imposed, tube diameter less than the breakpoint rapidly become much more damage resistant. In effect the "breakpoint" diameter tubes become the most damage sensitive and all smaller tubes become excessively heavy and exhibit unnecessarily high pressure drop as their damage tolerance increases unnecessarily. In view of this phenomena, this document incorparates a new approach. In affect, as defined by formulae where "D"=tubr OD and "t"=minimum tube wall, the present approach is:
a. above breakpoint D/t = a constant
b. below breakpoint t = a constant (ie .018 in)
