My name is Erika. I translate since 2011–2012. It started as a hobby. After I obtained broad experience, in 2015 I started translating professionally, as a parallel occupation. In 2017, I shifted from my original professional field (Law) to translation, desiring to dedicate myself to this profession with exclusivity.

What concerns my formal education, I’m a Bachelor of Laws, specialized in Civil Procedural Law. During the graduation, I took classes on Intellectual Property, so I understand patents and copyright law as well, and I have written and published academic articles on various topics. Upon my graduation, I received honorific prizes as best student, both from the University and from the Order of Attorneys of Brazil (OAB). My working experience with Law is more related to Public Law (Environmental, Administrative, Registers, Criminal, etc.), because I worked six years in courts, helping both judges and prosecutors, in different occasions.

Besides being a translator (Russian and English to Portuguese), I'm also an independent writer and an avid reader. I write often on different topics, both for social media and for literary purposes, and I review my own work to get rid of the errors before posting it online. These long-term habits (I've been writing since I was 12) and my 6 years’ work experience with Law — a field that also requires writing proficiency and clearness — improved my knowledge of Portuguese language.

I’ve always been a language nerd, and I studied several languages, on my own or with teachers, out of personal interest. Among those languages, I dedicated myself to the study of Russian, English and, lately, French, and perfected my knowledge to the point of being able to translate from them. I speak fluent English and Russian in advanced level. In December 2020, I was approved in the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL—ТРКИ-II) obtained a certificate of proficiency (C1) in this language, emitted by the Russian government.

I have also adhered to the Language Professional's Code of Ethics, a Russian project that aims to provide a practical orientation to help translators and agencies to deal with the ethical questions that appear in the business routine.
