Experience:

My career began with a job of a Copy editor in the news desks (regional language newspapers) in Bangalore fifteen years ago. After a decade long experience in reporting, copy editing and leading the news teams, my focus shifted towards becoming a language professional. From 2010 onwards, I am a fulltime Kannada Language Professional serving agencies across India and around the world. - Translation and review jobs for a global telecom major: Translated and reviewed over 175,000 words for products, applications and ovi tools from a telecom bigwig. The tasks included localization for cell phone OS, apps [tips on education, childcare, weather, news, farming, career etc.], games, copyright content etc.

- Translation / review / glossary creation jobs for the Operating System giant. The tasks included localization of products such as websites, email and messenger services, OS for PC, mobiles, tablets, games, applications etc. and copyright / terms and conditions content for all the above. The total volume of content supplied by me till date is more than 200,000 words.

- Currently working for global search engine behemoth as a reviewer hired through their vendors in Bangalore. The projects for this company include review of their products localized in various online platforms. The task is to conduct linguistic review of localized content related to its products and applications and finalize it for use in application.

- Currently working for translation projects from another search engine company. These translations are supplied for a localization of different products such as add program etc. from the client.

- Experience in working on several website localization projects. Localized websites for a British visa issuer to India, a French dating site, an accounts and audits service provider.

- Currently assisting in product localization tasks from an Asian telecom powerhouse, providing translations for its young and vibrant range of cell phones, tablets, smart phones and android based apps.

Vast experience of handling translation, review and back translation projects such as clinical trial consent/assent forms, medical questionnaires, descriptions on medical devices, user manuals, clinical trial materials including brochures, patient and doctor letters etc.

Transcreation

- Transcreation of more than 5,000 words for different clients in the retail, airlines, travel and tourism etc. Experience in transcreation for campaigns, advertising, short movy scripts and documentaries.

• Advertising/PR translation works from GoAir, Angel Broking, K & S tours, Reliance Mobile, ACC, Hindustan Uniliver, and ITC on ongoing basis.

Interpretation

• Interpretation services for people from non-governmental organizations, who were basically the English donors meeting their beneficiaries in India.
• Also for the documentary film crew meeting a famous hospital in Bangalore, interviewing patients and staff. These were face-to-face, chit-chat kind; gathering data being the sole purpose of these discussions
• Telephone interpretation: worked for facilitating an interaction between an employee in Bangalore who is a Kannada native speaker and an attorney from the United States. The question and answer session lasted about 2 hours, the attorney enquired the employee about code of conduct, anti-bride policy issues.


Language Consultancy Services

o Experience in assisting in style-guide creation for big / long term projects from different IT clients.
o Providing fool-proof on-demand, on-site services to clients on environments where the confidentiality needs are highest. Worked for Career Development Department of the Indian Institute of Management on several projects involving translation of question papers for the recruitments.
o Brand check, linguistic and cultural assistance: checked hundreds of brand names for their cultural suitability, aesthetics, meaning in local language etc.
o Conducting cognitive debriefing / patient surveys relating to questionnaires developed for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cancer and Type 2 Diabetes etc.


Cognitive Debriefing:
February 2009:
• Rheumatoid Arthritis project:
This project included collection of data from patients on their feedback on the quality of the translated texts in the India-Kannada version of the pain rating scale (prepared for use in Indian population), completing the cognitive debriefing grids, back translation of the interviews and preparation of the summary based on the gathered data.
September 2012:
• Linguistic Validation Project for a questionnaire on type II Diabetes in Children:
Five children aged below 10 were interviewed for the assessment of quality of questionnaire prepared in Kannada. The questionnaire was about how diabetes affects their lives, schooling and play in general. The population mix was such that two of them were actual diabetes patients aged about 7 and three others were girls.
The project included the following tasks;
- selection of participants with right mix
- briefing participant (individually) on the objective of the interview
- supplying him/her with the questionnaire
- collection of data through interviews and simultaneous audio recording
- completion of cognitive debriefing grids
- back translation of the collected data
- and finally, preparation of the summary
- delivering the recorded interviews, completed grids and anonymized demographic data of participants to the client
November 2012:
• Child and adolescent cancer project
This time, the selection requirements were unique. The client had asked for the selection of 3 adolescents (aged 12-17) with cancer and 3 parents of young children (aged 0-10) who have cancer. Because of the time restrictions, the client had asked to go ahead with the general population. This project also followed the same set of tasks. The questionnaires used for cognitive debriefing were prepared for the use in cancer patients of different age groups. Barring few differences in age group, patient population and the types of questionnaires, this too followed the course of action similar to that of type II diabetes project.
