I don’t use CAT tools, but when I’m translating – especially on long projects – I always go back and reread it paragraph by paragraph trying to get the whole job the way I want it the first time around so that the translation is practically “right” by the time I’ve finished. Even so, I may have few or many edits to make. I would definitely call my third reading “proofreading” when I read aloud the printed copy.

Regardless of in which format the translation is, I always read it segment by segment. These segments can be a single longer sentence or a paragraph.
Sometimes I speed read it because mistakes seem to "jump" right at me.

AI-assisted proofreading

Generally, after translating, I perform the first review using AI, and I only do the final review myself by reading the document in a text editor or PDF viewer on my computer. (I also use CAT tool, memoQ.)
