why into English? Nov 8, 2017

Hi Helga,

These seem pretty basic questions - it may be a good idea to do some background reading or (better still) to follow a few courses before trying to set yourself up as a professional translator. Hi Helga,

These seem pretty basic questions - it may be a good idea to do some background reading or (better still) to follow a few courses before trying to set yourself up as a professional translator. I assume you have a background in a legal profession, but if, as you state in your profile, Portuguese is your native language, would it not be better to translate into Portuguese, rather than into English? Translation into your native language almost always results in better, more natural translations.

That said, my thoughts on your questions (please note I do not work in the legal field):
- Street names should never be translated. A letter sent to a translated address may never arrive, as the translated street name does not exist in that particular city.
- 'Código Penal' should usually be translated, I would think (this may depend on the text, but an obvious term for this exists in English - Penal Code).
- As far as I know, "Article" is usually abbreviated as "Art." in English.

Obrigada Nov 8, 2017

Mark: sim, eu estou habituada a transcrição áudio (jurídica) e não a traduções, daí as minhas dúvidas.
Obrigada!!
Cumprt,

Helga
