I'm not 100% certain, but I believe in the case of López Obrador (in Mexico, in contrast to Argentina), the intention was to take him to court for a regular trial. When the whole thing fell apart, President Fox had to fire his Attorney General.

You got it right! "Desafuero" is the act of withdrawing, while "juicio de procedencia" is the trial where it´s decided whether "fueros" (inmunity, privileges) are to be withdrawn or not.

uncertain so, 'desafuero' and 'juicio de procedencia' both have the same meaning (withdrawal/removal of immunity)? only that juicio de porecedencia is an actual trial that takes place to remove immunity? and desafuero, is the act of removal of immunity?
