As a Spanish language native speaker, I understand that "traer" in this case means a repetitive action. It is very strange that English-Spanish dictionaries do not contain this definition. Of course, it is an informal use of Spanish language.

These options in wording are very common sayings in the USA for the Query context and for the interpretation that all of the Answers provided here have taken. 'Led me down the garden path' is also very commonly used, and I originally just added my wording to Patricia's Answer, but she suggested that I enter it as a separate suggestion.
