Spanish term

clínica de dolor

Spanish to English Science Medical (general)
"¿A qué tipo de pacientes prescribe X?"
"A los que tienen clínica de dolor."

Of course you can translate this as "those who are in pain", but I was wondering if in the medical jargon there's some way you say this "clínica de dolor" in English. Thank you.

agree Kate Major Patience : Oops! I was too hasty on this one, since I dealt with "pain clinics" so often last year in my work. In this case it is far more likely to be, as you say, to do with the clinical or medical history. :)

clinical symptoms of pain

Someone can have these symptoms, but not necessarily a clinical history.

agree jacana54 (X) : I think this is what the source text means. //Also "clinical signs".

those who require pain relief

Another option - going on the Harraps dictionary definition of 'clínica' as 'symptoms'.

I agree with Magaret that it does not necessarily mean a 'history' of pain - it could also be temporary, following surgery for example.

Many patients with soft-tissue problems and non-operable osteoarthritis will require pain relief.

Millions of patients require pain relief, yet most are met with inadequate and inappropriate pain treatment and often cannot find physicians to help them.

agree Cinnamon Nolan : Agree that "clínica de dolor" is not necessarily long-term history of pain.

These are less formal alternatives to "patients with a clinical history of pain", patinba's excellent proposal.
