Il termine potrebbe dare in realtà a prima vista un'impressione negativa, almeno in italiano. Però, modificarlo significherebbe stravolgere il concetto originale esposto dal filosofo. Credo perciò che sia comunque indispensabile la traduzione letterale, conservando però le virgolette giustamente utilizzate nel testo inglese.

Lo stesso temine cioè "to tie the knot" indica l'unirsi in matrimonio. Quindi l'instaurarsi di un legame profondo.

Belief’ – i’tiqad - means to become firmly knotted or tied, and he uses the term to refer to all ‘knottings’ that shape understanding.
