Spanish term

aumento de su aberrancia intraventricular basal

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Cardiology - ECG
This is in the ECG report of a patient who was hospitalized for atrial flutter, tachycardia and chest pain, and later had a stent implant:

ECG ... Conducción de flutter auricular 2:1 con *aumento de su aberrancia intraventricular basal*".

Since I don't understand the underlying cardiology concepts, I don't want to guess at a translation ... how would you say this in correct standard medical terminology?

(For the first half of the sentence I've written "2:1 atrial flutter cnduction...")

Thanks as ever ....

Discussion

Joseph Tein (asker) Dec 4, 2010:
I think I understand this ... actually, in terms of what is going on in the atria and how this affects the ventricles. Thus far, I have " 2:1 atrial flutter conduction, with an increase in baseline intraventricular aberration." I had forgotten to include the patient's heart rate = 150 bpm, with sinus rhythm ... just to complete the context, but I think this doesn't change the translation of the segment I'm asking about.
Rita Tepper Dec 1, 2010:
i.e., an incomplete right bundle branch block that becomes complete (more aberrant) during the atrial flutter.
Rita Tepper Dec 1, 2010:
Atrial flutter with 2:1 (AV) block, it means that 1 out of 2 atrial beats is not conducted to the ventricles and blocked at the AV node. "Aumento de su aberrancia intraventricular basal" means that the patient had a baseline abnormal intraventricular conduction that gets more aberrant (with a wider QRS complex) due to the atrial flutter, as decribed here: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/161028-overview

Peer comment(s):

agree Filippe Vasconcellos de Freitas Guimarães : Yes indeed. And you nailed the word order as well—IMHO at least.

Obrigada!
agree Otto Albers (X) : Refers to the aberrant (diverse) trajectories taken by the electric impulses in the ventricles, thus creating mayhem in the contractions and resulting in fibrillations.

Increase in patient's intraventricular basal abnormality

The diagnosis refers to an increase in a problem in the basal intraventricular region of the heart.
