Spanish term

redundancia

Spanish to English Law/Patents Gaming/Video-games/E-sports
Can't think what they mean by this. Here's the context:

Thanks!

Discussion

claudia16 (X) May 12, 2012:
however one of the original meanings of the word is something that is superfluous, not needed "que está demás" even in England they make you redundant when you become superfluous to your job! When I have come across the word used like this I have used "additional or stand by" equipment or whatever it might be

redundancy

The inclusion of extra components that are not strictly necessary to functioning, in case of failure in other components
- a high degree of redundancy is built into the machinery installation

However, I might be inclined to change sentence around and say "redundant hardware"

Here is a link to the Wikipedia entry:

In engineering, redundancy is the duplication of critical components or functions of a system with the intention of increasing reliability of the system, usually in the case of a backup or fail-safe.

You could also consider saying "redundant components" for the second example
Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Davis : Yes, "redundant X" (hardware, components or whatever). Redundancy sounds bad and wasteful, but it is good and necessary!
