German term
Lebendigen
German to English
Science
Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)

satisfies the criteria of life
The chemoton is an autocatalytic chemical supersystem that satisfies the criteria of life. It consists of three autocatalytic subsystems: a metabolic subsystem (self-reproducing chemical cycle), an informational subsystem (template polymerization cycle) and a boundary subsystem surrounding the former two (membrane). The chemical reactions of the three subsystems are coupled stoichiometrically, which coordinates the growth and division of the cell thus helping the system to be autocatalytic as a whole.

I wouldn't think quotation marks would be necessary if it's for a scientific community.

Note from asker:
perhaps "criteria for life", with the quotation marks doing some of the work?? |

: The original sounds to me like "criteria for one out of several possible ways to define life" (rather than *the* criteria of life), so one might need to add some sort of limitation or reservation

"a set of criteria defining 'life'"?
