The involvement of E-selectin in the development of tumor stroma has long been recognized as a mediator of the adhesion cascade. As a result of elevated E-selectin expression
in cancer, abundant sLex or sLeA positive immune infiltrates have also been detected and is associated with metastasis and poor survival in patients with different types of cancer. These immune infiltrates are the major component of tumor stroma that assist in cancer cell growth, angiogenesis, invasion through production of an array of cytokines, reactive oxygen species, proteases, angiogenic factors, and growth factors.
