Spanish term

recurrencia sísmico está vencido

seismic recurrence interval has passed

The HF is the most hazardous fault in the Bay Area given that a full average
recurrence interval has passed since its last M~ 7 earthquake in 1868 [Field et al., 2015].

The recurrence interval, or return period, is the average time span between earthquake occurrences on a fault or in a source zone. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/glossary/?term=recurrence i...
Peer comment(s):

agree Jennifer Levey : OK. 'seismic recurrence interval' is also commonly referred to, by the experts, as the 'seismic periodicity'. Either way, the ST is saying, basically, that an 'event' is overdue.

agree Thomas Walker : Strictly speaking, the likelihood, or probability of an event, is the inverse of the return period. The 100-year flood - a flood of this magnitude will occur once in 100 years ==> the probability =1/100 = 0.01 = 1% that it will occur in any given year.
