Spanish term

múltiplo del PIB

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Economics
Hi,

I would appreciate if you could help me with this term.

Sorry, not much context:

"El múltiplo del PIB es de apenas 60"

Thanks :)

I was looking at wrong figures, apparently. I think it means that the GDP is now 60 times what it was in 1965. And this graph shows that more or less it is 60 times.

Thanks for your help guys. I cannot make sense of it either, as Charles says, multipliers do not reach a value of 60. I'm posting what comes before and after, but I'm not sure it helps much. Any input is hugely appreciated.

"El volumen actual de los
activos de las entidades de crédito multiplica por 370 el
que existía hace 50 años; en el crédito, el factor es de 240;
Charles Davis Feb 15, 2016:
I'm not convinced this means the multiplier. As you suggest, Donal, a GDP multiplier of 60 is inconceivable, it's normally up to about 2. 0.6 would be plausible, and on the low side (which would fit "apenas"), so maybe they do mean 60%.

But in any case, múltiplo, in principle, means multiple, not multiplier. The Keynesian multiplier normally seems to be referred to in Spanish as "multiplicador".

However, I can't say I understand what they're saying here.

What could be as high as 60? 60% would be understandable.

GDP multiplier

Just google GDP multiplier and you'll get your answer

disagree Francois Boye : The concept of GDP multiplier is alien to economics. You are mistaking it for the 'spending multiplier' or the 'money multiplier'
