: Hi Jason. I looked up "superimposed infection" earlier and found lots of convincing examples. Why would it not be "superimposed"infection? Do they mean the same?

Just an idea, and I really can't be sure this is what is meant here, but I assume it means an infection that occurred subsequent to and on top of the trauma and its sequela.
There might also be a more common medical term for this, too.
Acute compromise may occur with supervening infection, hemorrhage, or loss of protective mechanisms, such as muscle tone.

: For me this is a better term as it is somewhat self-explanatory, but the preferred and established term does appear to be "superinfection". Saludos
