Solicitando SONORIZACIÓN

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Court proceedings- criminal
This is a Preliminary Proceedings (diligencias previas) document from Spain and the top of the document reads:

S/REF: D.P. XXXX SECRETAS JUZGADO MIXTO DOS ESTEPONA
N/REF: BPPJ UDYCO COSTA DEL SOL Grupo I Crimen Organizado, R. Sda XXXX
FECHA: 11 de junio de 2019
ASUNTO: D/C y Solicitando SONORIZACIÓN
DESTINATORIO: JUZGADO DE INSTRUCCION DOS EN FUNCIONES DE GUARDIA DE TORREMOLINOS

So I'm asking about the ASUNTO. I wasn't sure if it means they are requesting a hearing? Can't seem to find the word SONORIZACIÓN used in a legal context elswehere

The document then goes on to outline the case - the background, the evidence, the victims, what is known about the crime etc.

Discussion

Requesting sound equipment The way I see it: the UDYCO (police) has secretly recorded the bads and now wants to play the recordings during the hearing, thus they are requesting the necessary sound equipment.
AllegroTrans Mar 16, 2023:
@ Kit Surely sound recording of conversations would relate, as you say, to when they were in custody, not in the courtroom? So does that really make sense?
Kit Sheard (asker) Mar 16, 2023:
Sound recording equipment Thank you to all who contributed. This was so helpful!

Twelve pages later in the document, they actually explained that what they wanted to do was record the conversations of the suspects while they were in custody to gather more information so "audio recording" and "sound recording" were probably the closest!

Thanks again!
philgoddard Mar 14, 2023:
It could simply mean sound recording, and knowing what "D/C" means might help.

I'm surprised that while this is the 'asunto', sound is not mentioned in the document.
Hernan Casasbuenas Mar 14, 2023:
Soundtracking I think it would be worthwhile looking into this possible translation. The document is part of a case hearing.
neilmac Mar 14, 2023:
SONORIZACIÓN If they were requesting a hearing, that would be an odd way to do so, because hearing is usually 'audiencia'. When I first saw the query I thought that it might refer to audio recording, or perhaps soundproofing, although that would be INSONORIZACIÓN. This is an odd one, and I'll be interested to see what our colleagues think.

seek/ing set-up of a courtroom amplification (sound booth) system

I imagine that, whether or not British expats - including Merseybeat stars of old and other famous singers who have retired to Estepona require publicity - the case / asunto may need loudspeakers for *amplification* and broadcasting of the submissions.

Possibly also into-English / -Spanish etc. - interpreting booths, so no chuchotage /whispering in Spanish.

- a wholly reasonable request, whatever the charges brought and one that would not be out-of-place at the Old Bailey..
Example sentence:

a. Equipos de sonorización. b. Iluminación Espectácular. c. Sistemas Audivisuales.

Se ha ajustado la estructura de ganancia de entrada y salida del procesador, asegurando la óptima relación señal/ruido del sistema de sonorización.

agree ezpz : Adding microphones and speakers to the courtroom. It's for record-keeping as well as just general accessibility.

Thank and gracias, ezpz
agree AllegroTrans : Yes, but not "sound booth" and as usual the first two lines of your explanation are of no interest to anybody

Thanks and gracias, Chris, also for the back-handed compliment (you probably have never heard of Cilla Black or Tony Christie) and even though your and the ubiquitous Phil G's agrees are unauthoritative and may even spell thie kiss of death.
agree philgoddard : Agree with Allegro, but for "first two lines" read "first three paragraphs".

request for (inductive loop) sound reinforcement

It might refer to the use of an inductive loop sound reinforcement system for the benefit of hearing-impaired participants in the proceedings (legal counsel, parties, jury members etc.).
These systems deliver audio from the participants' microphones directly to the listener's hearing aid, and can be used independently of a 'public address' system with loudspeakers.
In some countries there's a legal requirement to provide this service in certain public places - and a court of law should be no exception.

See for example: https://www.soundservices.co.uk/product/loop/

neutral AllegroTrans : It could well incude this but I don't think it is the meaning per se

Requesting sonorization/soundtracking/sound equipment

It looks like the UDYCO brigade is going to attend a court hearing where they want to present secret phone recordings and therefore the brigade is requesting sound equipment to be made available for them during the hearing.
Peer comment(s):

agree Hernan Casasbuenas : I think it is more in the direction of soundtracking
4 hrs
neutral Jennifer Levey : Your explanation is plausible, but 'sonorization' is concerned with phonetics, 'soundtracking' relates to movie productions and 'sound equipment' is too vague.
