trasplants
The whole sentence goes: "Once matches have been found, each transplant center involved performs crossmatches for the identified donors and recipients to see if they are compatible"
I´m not sure how to translate "matches": maybe "personas compatibles"? I really appreciate any help provided! Thanks in advance!

donantes compatibles

¨Matching¨here is a type of compatibility, the blood group.
There are different levels of compatibility and the ¨candidates¨are usually referred to as ¨potential donors¨.
I did overlook the use of the word ¨compatible¨in the sentence, but still believe ¨donantes¨ or ¨donantes posibles¨ would work for ¨matches¨.

Matching and Compatibility
You may have heard discussions about “matching” and kidney transplantation. There are actually three tests that are done to evaluate donors. They are blood type, crossmatch, and HLA testing. This blood test is the first step in the process of living donation and determines if you are compatible or a “match” to your recipient.
https://rb.gy/36snr
There are three main blood tests that will determine if a patient and a potential donor are a kidney match. They are blood typing, tissue typing and cross-matching.
The degree of similarity between the HLA genes of the donor and recipient is known as histocompatibility; the more genetically compatible the donor and the recipient, the more tolerant the recipient’s immune system should be of the graft. However, unless the donor and recipient are genetically identical (e.g. as in identical twins) there will always be some degree of rejection. As well as nonself HLA proteins, other surface proteins on the donor graft can also be identified as a foreign antigen and illicit an immune response.
https://www.immunology.org/policy-and-public-affairs/briefin...
https://rb.gy/8ulfw
A crossmatch test is a test that determines the immunologic risk of a recipient with a potential donor by ensuring that there are no transplant-relevant circulating antibodies in the recipient directed against donor antigens.

: This is illogical. How will your translation end, where the ST says ... to see if they are compatible?

True, I would say instead ¨donantes potenciales¨ given they have a certain level of compatibility.

: Hola, Cecilia.

match
coincidencia
'match' refers to the results of data searches that display records where certain data fields are equal (at least, to within any limits set by a search filter).
Those coincidencias are then compared to find donors and recipients who are compatible (from a medical viewpoint).

: En el contexto de id. de transplantes compatibles que describe el texto del Asker, "match" tiene un sentido específico que no parece justificado eludir//Yeap, maybe, but isn't that an extrapolation? ;)

If the the quoted sentence from the ST simply says 'match', instead of giving a full explanation, it's most likely because the meaning of 'match' has already been explained in an earlier paragraph. The details don't need to be repeated in full.

compatibilidad de grupo sanguíneo
There are actually three tests that are done to evaluate donors. They are blood type, crossmatch, and HLA testing. This blood test is the first step in the process of living donation and determines if you are compatible or a “match” to your recipient.
https://health.ucdavis.edu/transplant/livingkidneydonation/m...

Thanks. But it is not just "compatibilidad". It would not make sense in Spanish. You must convey the meaning of "matches" within the given context; compatibilidad de grupo sanguíneo.

Hi, Jennifer. The original text differentiates "matches" from "crossmatching" in the context of transplants. There is no extrapolation, really, but a coming to terms with the given context.

: This make more sense. It doesn´t make sense for them to find compatibility in order to then find out if there is compatibility again, unless they´re referring to different steps in the process.

Thanks Molly. And yes; "once matches are found (...) [they] perform crossmatching (...) to see if they are compatible". "Matches", "crossmatching" and "compatible" are (necessarily) different concepts here.
