Bestaat er een vertaling voor 'film still' of mag het Engels woord in het Nederlands gebruikt worden? Een film still is een foto die genomen wordt op een filmset.

Benediction:

Traditional knowledge is eternal, it does not change. It evokes a reality that does not change but has to be recognized through a change in our being. This change takes place thanks to the help of an influence which reaches us through a spiritual linkage, an influence coming from a higher level of being. It has to be emitted through evolved beings so that it can be alive today and still be of concern to us. It has to be spoken of rightly - which is bene-diction - so that it can be factually experienced, since it cannot be received in our usual state of being, that of alienation.

hmm If you're going to make oblique comments about using the right words (instead of simply saying you think I'm wrong), you'd better make sure you actually use the right words to do so. From my impractical, impersonal point of view, you used the word "benediction" incorrectly.

Depends on the context. "filmstill" feels a bit more arty, "productiefoto" more related to the production side of the process, if you ask me. "filmstill" was definitely used at the Rietveld when I was there (doing fine art).

FWIW Ik heb als Art-Director aardig wat film/tv-producties gedaan en daar werd gesproken over productiefoto's, niet over filmfoto's of filmstills. Dient nog vermeld te worden dat de "still photographer" stamt uit de 30-er jaren in de VS en die werd daar speciaal voor aangesteld. Met de huidige budgetten bij de nlse film mag je al blij zijn als je Art Department uit 3 mensen mag bestaan en je hebt zeker geen speciaal ingehuurde still photographer. Dat valt onder "Publiciteit" die af en toe een snelle jongen met een camera de set opstuurt. Als je kijkt naar de aftiteling bij amerikaanse films zie je zelfs een "prop buyer", bij nlse producties (niet film genoemd!) zie je hoogstens een "art director en een set dresser en medewerkers art department"...

neutral freekfluweel : "Standfoto" is Duits m.b.t. film en in het NLs gebruikt voor dieren, bijvoorbeeld bij honden en paarden. http://tinyurl.com/o4sygbz En "filmstill" is EN en dat werd niet gevraagd maar juist een NLs equivalent!

re "standfoto" being German + being used for horses: I know that. re "filmstill" being EN: it isn't. It's a mengelmoes of EN + Dutch. EN = "film still", or just "still". vraag was ook: "… of mag het Engels woord in het Nederlands"?

agree Afke : Het is een keurige vertaling die in veel situaties goed te gebruiken is. Ik ben het met Michael eens dat het in zijn voorbeeld niet zo mooi is als het origineel. Misschien zou je dat een beetje vrijer kunnen vertalen met filmbeeld.

Dank je, Afke. In het specifieke voorbeeld van Michael hierboven "met de suggestieve kracht en de onderhuidse spanning van een...' past 'filmbeeld' inderdaad beter dan 'filmfoto'. 'filmstill' zegt mij persoonlijk niets.
