Change log

Aug 8, 2022 15:37: Andrea Capuselli changed "Term Context" from "This appears in a technical text about planning a vehicle trajectory. \"einen gewünschten Versatz des Fahrzeugs, eine absetzbare Verzögerung, eine zulässige Beschleunigung und eine absetzbare Lenkdynamik\"" to "This appears in a technical text about planning a vehicle trajectory."

Discussion

Susan Starling Aug 6, 2022:
"absetzbar" doesn't mean adjustable/adaptable "Absetzen" is one of those words with various meanings, but there's nothing like "adjustable" or "adaptable" according to the Duden definitions: https://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/absetzen.

I wonder if "absetzbar" could mean "interruptible" - which does in fact seem to be used in such contexts in English and would correspond to "abbrechen" as one meaning of "absetzen". But this is way out of my field so I won't propose a translation. HTH.

adaptable

I would use "adaptable" "settable" in this context.

adjustable

It improves the directional stability at high speeds, so that no small steering adjustments are needed.

Adjustable steering columns allow drivers to adjust the height of the steering wheel and distance according to their preference with a small tilt change, using electric motors or compression locks.

Adjustable deceleration cylinders have been designed to control the speed of moving masses.
