German term

Informationstechnik

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers (general)
"Sie studieren vorzugsweise Informatik, Informationstechnik, Wirtschaftsinformatik oder einen ähnlichen Studiengang..."

I've been using "information technology" as the translation of "Informatik". Now they've come along with "Informationstechnik." Does anyone know what the difference is betweem "Informatik" and "Informationstechnik"? Have I been using the wrong term for Informatik?

agree Paul Merriam : Basically, Informatik is using the computer. Informationstechnik is manipulating the information using the computer. See http://1.vorlesungsplanung.de/forum.php?op=show_posting&foru... for more i

Thanks, Paul, but that's very misleading. The explanation in the subsequent thread is somewhat better: http://tinyurl.com/fxu29
agree jccantrell : Use 'computer science' for Informatik if for the USA.
