Norwegian term
sanere
Norwegian to English
Bus/Financial
Business/Commerce (general)
this has to do with office equipment, but the question is actually more general.
"Innkjøper NN sanerte alle de gamle skriverne og satset på multifunksjon."
While "sanere" actually means to restructure/reorganise to improve something, there's no reason why I couldn't use "replace" here, is there? That's what actually happened, and it would be a much more natural way of putting it in English. The end result is the same....

get rid of
'Sanere' sometimes just means to 'get rid of', 'clear away'.

Comment: "This suits my context best, but grading 3 because of the atypical use of the verb in the source text. Thanks to Michele and others."

replace/restore
In this context I agree that it seems they are actually replacing the printers. "Sanere" would normally mean to restore the existing printers, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

remove
sanere, as in clear away or remove?
Note from asker:
But "sanere" doesn't actually mean that, Diarmuid. On the other hand it doesn't mean to replace, but this is what is implied, in my view. |

: In my opinion it means "to throw away" in this context.
