HR og personalledelse

Norwegian to English Other Human Resources
HR har sneket seg inn på mange norske nettsider. Min tekst er en presentasjon av et studietilbud i HR og personalledelse. Men jeg har litt vanskelig for å se hva begrepet HR inneholder, som ikke allerede er innbakt i personalledelse.
Rekruttering? Bemanning?
Eller skal jeg bare oversette med Human Resources management og se bort fra smør-på-flesk-delen av den norske tittelen?

Interesting distinction Under Human Resources my dictionary does outline this very shortly and in rather different terms, but mentions that the emphasis has shifted from a largely administrative view of the work (hiring and firing, training, pay) to a focus on morale, motivation and job satisfaction.

På norsk har man begrepene "personalledelse" og "personaladministrasjon", der førstnevnte i de sammenhengene jeg har jobbet viser til bemanning, personalutvikling, strategisk personalarbeid og etterutdanning for ansatte, mens sistnevnte dreier seg mer om å registrere timelister og reiseregninger. Så ut fra min erfaring ligger "personalledelse" begrepsmessig nærmere "HRM" enn "traditional personnel management"

Om man forstår hva man man selv skriver er ofte et spørsmål jeg sitter igjen med.
Er litt i tvil. Fra nettstedet til en annen institusjon som tilbyr personalledelse og HR: Personalledelse er ledelse av bedriftens viktigste ressurs. Personalledelse er også å ansette, utvikle og lede denne ressursen for å oppfylle bedriftens mål best mulig.

HR, Human Resources, er blitt en del av også den norske begrepsverden, og HR strategi bør være en integrert del av bedriftens totale forretningsstrategi.

Ble ikke mye klokere av det, jeg, i alle fall.

En mulig forskjell Det *kan* være en mulig forskjell, forutsatt at den som har skrevet det forstår det selv :)

HR kan være den sentrale, administrative funksjonen for håndtering av spørsmål knyttet til personell, mens personalledelse kan være det å lede direkte underordnede i det daglige arbeid.

HR or write Human resources out in full

My first thought was to suggest ´HR and personnel management´, but I think that shows my age!

My latest dictionary - Oxford Dictionary of Business Management, 5th edition 2009 - simply says: See Human Resource Management under personnel management.

It does have an entry for Personnel Selection.

However, it is usually simply called HR, or Human Resources if HR is a little short as a heading. You might then abbreviate it in the following text.

You might not, however. It depends on your style and register. English is certainly not as fond of abbreviations as some of the source texts I translate.

It makes sense to explain the English abbreviation in Norwegian, but is, as you say, ´smør-på-flesk´ in English

You might call it Human resources or HR and administration, if that is important.
There will be no job satisfaction etc. if there is not an efficient foundation of administration - with pay and qualified colleagues, the right facilities, and equipment in place at the right time!

HR and personnel/staff management

HR and personnel management are two clearly different things. The HR department is in charge of having the right people with the right skills on the *payroll* at all times, taking things like parental leaves into account, and arranging further training where required. Department managers are responsible for having the right people with the right skills on the *job* at all times - managing shift lists, job rotation, calling in replacements on sick days, handling vacations. You might say HR does the hiring, Department managers do the firing. The term 'personalansvar' goes towards the latter function.
Exactly which of these functions your study offer covers, should be reflected in the headline.
