Peer comment(s):

neutral Vedis Bjørndal : 'anfallslidelse' is an 'umbrella' term for a disease or disorder characterized by 'attacks=anfall' or 'seizures': 'Epileptisk anfall' og 'migreneanfall'. I believe the term has little to do with frequency
1 hr
anfallslidelse = disorder characterized by episodic attacks = episodic disorder//'attacks' like in 'episodes', not like in 'seizures' not frequency, but episodic nature - characterized by attacks = not ongoing, but occurs in episodes
agree Christine Andersen : not necesary frequent, but periodic. Causes may or may not be known, but are factors like hormone cycles, certain foods or many other things. The patient is healthy between episodes.

Thanks. I'm having a bit of trouble explaining that attacks and episodes really mean the same thing here, but we don't say 'attack disorder'.
neutral reliablewriters : Episodic disease may be an accurate description but is not a recognised expression, at least in British English.

seizure disorder

I first thought of 'seizure disease'. I suppose that is OK too.
'Attack'would be another option.

I agree that my suggestion has more to do with epilepsy than with migraine. Sometimes, though, epilepsy is often misdiagnosed as 'migraine with aura'-

(Migraine is) a condition characterised by frequent attacks

Lidelse = condition/illness/sickdom. Anfall = (plutselig og kortvarig) utbrudd av sykdom eller sinnsbevegelse (sudden and transitory) onset of sickness or mental agitation, eg. gallesteinsanfall - attack of biliary colic; epilepsianfall - epileptic fit/seizure

I accept that 'frequent' here is incorrect, although many sufferers of conditions characterised by attacks do suffer frequent attacks. Vedis is right in emphasising the translation of the umbrella term rather than pinpointing the nature of migraines; I stand by "a condition characterised/characterized by attacks"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Michele Fauble : Attacks are not necessarily frequent.//Migraine. ... characterized by attacks or episodes ... headaches.about.com/library/glossary/bl-migraine.htm 'Episodes' ARE 'attacks' , hence 'episodic disorder'.
