Spanish term

Antepenúltimo / Penúltimo

Spanish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Tengo dudas con estas dos palabras... En el siguiente párrafo como lo pondrían?

"... con objeto de dar cumplimiento al Artículo 216 párrafo antepenúltimo y penúltimo, los cuales establecen..."

las posibles opciones que encontré son:

- antepenultimate / penultimate
- third last / second last
- third from the bottom / second to last

alguna sugerencia??

Selected

third to last / second to last

Sobre todo si el destino (CONTEXTO) es USA; las palabras "antepenultimate / penultimate" no se usan; lo que se usa y se entiende es lo que planteo.

Otra opción es usar la numeración de los párrafos si se puede determinar.

agree Simon Bruni : agreed, in a less formal context it would be "last but two"

Paragraphs 5 and 6 (for example)

Since the word "antepenultimate" is rarely used in English, another option would be to refer to the paragraphs by number (from the beginning of the article)--in my experience, this is more typical in formal English documents.
Example sentence:

In reference to Article 10.02 subsection 2, September 16, 2011 will mark the first election subsequent to 2007 by court decree and therefore permits any qualified resident to hold an officership while not necessarily having served as a director.

agree philgoddard : If the paragraphs are numbered, this would be a better solution.

Third to the last/next to the last

All of the entries are good. This is just only another way of saying it (in U.S.).
