Spanish term

AO 28mm

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Echocardiogram report
The left atrium (AI) is 30mm in this report, but I don't recognize another acronym, "AO". Any suggestions, please? By the way, can anybody tell me a URL for Spanish medical acronyms? Thanks in advance...

Rita Tepper Apr 1, 2009:
Charles Ferguson (asker) Apr 1, 2009:

I know this is in the KudoZ glossary somewhere (impossible to search two characters, tho'), but check out the contexts below to see if they fit.
Note from asker:
Thank you for your input and I agree that AO is an acronym for aorta. I found celiacp's suggestion most helpful, however. She quite rightly observed the aorta itself cannot measure 28mm and that this measurement would fit for "aortic orifice" which is an important dimension. I have seen quite a few English acronmyms in Spanish texts so found the AO=aortic orifice suggestion the most HELPFUL. However, so as not to cause confusion in the glossary, I will now select yours. I hope this clarifies the situation. Once again, thank you for your work on this issue. If you wish to comment further, I should be pleased to hear from you. C J S Ferguson.
