tax payer (2 words) or taxpayer (1 word)?

English Bus/Financial Law: Taxation & Customs Spelling
Which is the correct way to write this? I see both being used. Thanks for any help.

agree William [Bill] Gray : And ever so many more hits on Google than as two words! But I suspect that we could not say one was more "correct", just more commonly used. It's even sometimes written with a hyphen, although in general the hyphen is being dropped in English.

yes, it's not a question of which is more correct but at least in Britain, we (including the tax authorities) use the term as one word more commonly
agree jarry (X) : In South Africa, which mostly follows UK spelling, it is invariably written as one word.
