There are two types of loads ; dead load and live load . Dead load is the structural load , the weight of structural members , the weight of structure itself. After completion of structure start the work of walls, partitions, floorings , mechanical and electrical installations and etc... which are called live loads. Unless there is a typo or missing words referring to live load and in that case the translation would be : "dead and live design loads" or "structural and variable design loads"

Sorry, just to correct an earlier inaccuracy of mine! The dead load includes loads that are relatively constant over time, including the weight of the structure itself, and immovable fixtures such as walls, plasterboard or carpet. ... Dead loads are also known as permanent or static loads. Building materials are not dead loads until constructed in permanent position.

PP = Peso Propio = self weight or self load = weight of structure eg pillars, cables etc
CM = carga muerta = carga permanente = dead loads = self weight plus non structural elements such as lighting fixtures, service ducts, etc.

self weight (less professional )=dead load = static load = structural load are all same. Sometimes new structural designers repeat the term in different ways , it happens.

many thanks all, just a comment regarding the CM = carga muerta, this doc and others have it as carga permanente and I've seen this as dead loads too so not sure that CM can be dead loads or at least in spanish?? If anyone knows I'd appreciate it and many thanks to all. Enjoy the rest of the weekend

Some times "CM" referrs to "carga muerta" which is "dead load"

Tricky in a list like that. In this context PP is usually "peso propio" (self-weight, i.e the weight of the structure) and CM is usually carga muerta (dead load).

Carga permanente Permanent load

So, the answer to your question is that they are not the same. Dead load is "carga muerta".

Hi Taña and many thanks for this but I have a question as I have seen carga permanente translated as dead load so not sure if carga muerta can also be used ie if both are used Many thanks :)
