Has anybody tried using speech recognition software with Wordfast Pro?

I think Dragon software works with some glitches on Wordfast Classic.

I want to dictate directly into the target segment box and would be interested to hear from you re. your experiences (especially replies from Mac users, but also from PC users).

Dragon and Wf Pro Apr 20, 2011

I have been using Dragon with Wf Pro. It doesn't work as well as it does with Classic, where I find it works really well. I found it really annoying that when I queried this with Wordfast, I was told that Wf Pro is not designed to work with Dragon. Why not?

Hi Barbara,

I had a suspicion that was the case. I am still waiting for a reply from the Wordfast Pro team on this issue. I guess I will have to just buy Dragon Dictate and try it out on the free versions of Classic and Pro.

I prefer Pro as it allows you to view the different language segments in columns to the side of each other, and not just above and below each other as in Classic.

I am also toying with the idea of just using WF Anywhere instead.

BTW, were you using a Mac with Snow Leopard?

Michael

PS: know any good microphones (not headsets) for Dragon on the Mac?

I use Office 2007 on Windows XP. I find that Dragon is acceptable with WfPro, but better with Classic. As for microphones, I suggest that the best place to look for advice is the Nuance website. I use a Plantronics CS60 USB headset, which is very good. Strangely, my other Plantronics (wired) headset gives far better sound quality for Skype, but not for Dragon.

These things are always a matter of personal preference: I much prefer working in Wf Classic because it shows me the document formatting almost instantly and in the same file I am working on.

It also is flexible about changing segmentation on the fly.

I think you can also use Dictation Pro, it works perfectly with just a few minutes of training and it is completely free. Download here: http://www.deskshare.com/dictation.aspx

Just tried Dictation Pro and it fails to recognize more than half of what I say. I guess it's the quality of the microphone I am using - a standard headset by Logitech which does a perfect job for Skype but... It cost 3 times more than a plain China-made headset by a non-reputable brand, but it seems that's not enough.

What microphones are you using? What price range?

Premium or Home?? Jun 8, 2011

Can anyone using Dragon with WF (Pro or Classic) tell me which version of Dragon they use?
I am a WF Classic user about to take the plunge, but need some first-hand info on whether Home will do the job, or do I need to splash out more and get Premium... and what is the difference anyway?

Many thanks.

There is a feature comparison on the Nuance website http://www.nuance.com/ucmprod/groups/dragon/@web/documents/collateral/nd_004125.pdf
Unless I am mistaken, the Home version only allows you to dictate in one language.

I bought the Premium version simply to be able to dictate in French and English. I use it to work with Wordfast Classic and Pro and I am very happy with it.

Microphone Jun 20, 2011

I just finished quite a sizable project using Wordfast Pro in combination with Dragon.
I find that Plantronics CS60 is one of the most suitable microphones, if not the best.
However, one has to find a way of clearly speaking into it in a natural way (not too fast) while keeping the tip of the microphone against one's cheek for optimum recognition.
