Subjective Opinion | Sep 9, 2011 |
I polled "average". Looking at the score, hardly anyone considers their income to be high.
Compared to what? | Sep 9, 2011 |
Compared to the income of the general population in my country, my income is very high. Compared to the income of fellow translators in developed countries probably average or less.
compared to... | Sep 9, 2011 |
people with a similar education in my country (and also considering cost of living in my country) I would say that I can barely manage from what I can earn as a full-time translator, but due to the fact that I also work part-time with more lucrative things, I manage well.

From the point of view of input = output. Barely enough financial return for the effort put in but there are enormous fringe benefits.
barely enough... | Sep 9, 2011 |

AFAIK: Average and if I compare it with the opportunity cost : the cost of a translation education, the effort to learn languages, the amount of time spend on a translation vs the amount of money earned, translators vs.other professionals, like dentists, lawyers, doctors, economists... and the lack of career opportunities, it is average to low for most.

I think my salary is slightly above the UK average. Without doubt it is VASTLY above the earning of many in the third world. Compared to CEO of major companies, it would be a pittance! We have a house to live in, food to eat, clothes to wear and money to share with people in need. Some of the most precious things in life cost me nothing - a hug from my children, a look from my husband, the freedom to practise my faith, a wander in the field wit... Amazingly hard question to answer | Sep 9, 2011 |
Average compared to what? I am perfectly happy with what I earn, but then I don't run a car, have to pay rent or have children in private schools and I am surrounded by people worse off than myself.
Low - average - high | Sep 9, 2011 |
Low compared to a corporate CEO or a staff translator in an international organization; Average compared to other freelance translators; High compared to a yoga instructor.
