Dear All,
I am writing to warn you against a "David Morgan" who pretends he is
organizing a long mission and then vanishes into thin air.
I was very surprised to read that there was a 10 days contract in Rome (in

Dear All,
I am writing to warn you against a "David Morgan" who pretends he is
organizing a long mission and then vanishes into thin air.
I was very surprised to read that there was a 10 days contract in Rome (in
January? I had 3 missions in 10 years in Italy, nothing happens in Brussels
during this time of the year and I was supposed to believe that something
was going on in Rome? Suspicious...). Because I need to work, I said to
myself that I had to be optimistic not paranoid, so I waited. The guy was
reluctant to tell whether it was consecutive or simultaneous interpreting
but very interested in knowing how much I charged and how was he supposed to
pay me. And this is where I started to be very very cautious: shouldn't I
have known first the topic and the location? (Note that not only Rome is a
big town, but I was landing from Paris and my hometown is in Tuscany).
Furthermore no customer is ever so eager to pay. Anyway, when I brought up
the magic word "contract" the guy took French leave. Thank God I had not
booked any hotels in Rome nor rescheduled any flights.
Now, I don't know if this person is working for the Italian tax office and
wanted to check on my rates or whatever, but there are some weird people out
there, people who have fun like that because they don't know other ways to
"get a life". I found this behaviour very rude as he could have told me for
example that everything was cancelled. Until two days before me and my
brother didn't really know how to organize ourselves and to make everything
fit (two pets and a 80 years old dad who had to travel from Tuscany to
Naples).
I am not just letting the steam out, I am also asking you to be very
cautious in similar circumstances especially for missions organized in Italy
(where the work conditions are not always proper).
Thanks for taking the time to read this and spread the news, it might be
helpful.
