I've asked a couple of questions on this subject before, but I haven't received a reply from ProZ until now. I was particularly interested in why non-logged-in visitors never award points or respond to comments, and why so many appear to have exactly 30 open questions.
This is what the staff member told me:
'A "non-logged-in visitor" refers to someone using the site without logging in to a ProZ account.

'A "non-logged-in visitor" refers to someone using the site without logging in to a ProZ account.
'ProZ allows visitors to interact without an account in two ways: they can ask KudoZ questions, and they can send profile messages to those users who have set their profile to accept messages from visitors without an account.
'Visitors can ask KudoZ questions without being a registered user, but they have some limits, including the fact that they can only post 5 questions per day.
'The reason why non-logged-in visitors show as having 30 open questions is actually because of a small flaw in our implementation, which we plan to address when we modernize KudoZ for the new site. This does not reflect the actual number of open questions from a given visitor.
'Non-logged-in visitors can respond to answers or award points with a question-specific password that ProZ sends them via email to give them access to their posted question but, simply put, they often forget.
'That is why, when a question posted by a visitor has been open for a while, the system starts trying to close it automatically based on the amount of "agrees" that the answers have, using the First Validated Answer system.' ▲ Collapse

That's interesting. I used to ask myself how non-logged-in visitors can ask questions, why they don't usually award point and don't close their questions. You have answered all these questions now. Thanks for sharing.
But, I'm just surprised why they prefer being a non-logged-in visitors instead of using Proz in the regular way. It's a bit weird!

What site staff say is inaccurate. Non-logged-in visitors can post a question, but after that they cannot add comments to the DBox, nor can they answer requests for clarification or award points. The facility for them is completely dumbed down, virtually useless in effect.

I think this is applicable even for KudoZ questions asked by registered users ( have accounts ) too, and this makes the competition quite boring. Shouldn't this been left to the questioner instead?

But, Kudoz isn't a competition, nor a translation contest.
Kudoz is a community-based terminology network.
The Kudoz answer questions feature is intended to offer free assistance in translating tough terms. The question is posted by someone in need of term help. […] In this type of KudoZ, the emphasis is on helping the asker.

I know they are not a formal competition on this website, but, the system itself treat them as if they were so.
