I enjoyed some subjects better than others, and was better at some of them than others. I tended to perform better in subjects I enjoyed. I was rubbish at maths and science and barely scraped through most of the time. However, English and foreign languages were my strong points. So I reckon that sort balances out as average. I imagine most people will have had a somewhat similar experience.

My performance in primary school was below average, because it just didn't engage me. I became much more interested and performed above average when I moved onto secondary school where I was taught a more varied range of subjects including Classical Studies and Latin. | | | Above average | Apr 22, 2018 |
I enjoyed Mathematics, Geography, History, Portuguese, Physics, Philosophy, English and French and I have always had good grades in those subjects. I hated Chemistry and I was an awful student in that subject, but most of all I hated Gym (I have probably used every possible excuse not to do it until my doctor found out that I had juvenile rheumatism: what a relief!). | |

I was always a B+ student in most subjects, both in high-school and in college.
In high-school, I hit an A average a few times, and I was called twice to join the National Honor Society, which I, of course, refused both times. | | | jccantrell Amerika Syarikat Local time: 20:42 Ahli (2005) Bahasa Jerman hingga Bahasa Inggeris Above average | Apr 22, 2018 |

The point was learning. I'm not being facetious. The anxiety about "performance" can create a fair amount of mischief. | | | Yetta Jensen Bogarde Denmark Local time: 05:42 Ahli (2012) Bahasa Inggeris hingga Bahasa Denmark + ... Above average in everything | Apr 22, 2018 |
except for painting and drawing, where I am absolutely hopeless.
But I was not a straight A student, as I did not work very hard until university level. | | | Christine Andersen Denmark Local time: 05:42 Ahli (2003) Bahasa Denmark hingga Bahasa Inggeris + ...
Ups and downs! Don't get me started...
In the early days I was probably above average. I remember my parents explaining that coming top of the class depends on the others - it is a competition that you can't always win.
(How wise they were in that - I always rage in those films at parents who demand, quite unreasonably, that a child MUST come top at this or that subject, when the child obviously can't!!)

We children were always encouraged to do our best and try to improve on previous results. In fact my brother and I did often come top at our first school. We had the advantage of speaking English at home, which not all the others did.
Later, through a checkered career and changes of school - (I went to seven, three in India and four in England) it varied a lot more. I made the mistake of coming top in Latin the first year - beginner's luck! and the teacher could never understand why I could not keep it up. I really did try, but never came above mediocre, at least in her eyes, after that...
I struggled in arithmetic/maths, too. I can often understand the logic, but the numbers swim on paper... It was back in the days of log. tables, which were a nightmare!
I went through 8-9 years of secondary school convinced I was below average/stupid, and was quite amazed at college and in adult education to find I was able to do quite well! ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How would you describe your performance in school?
