Until now, those interested in powwows were encouraged to add their names to powwow pages whether or not they were sure to attend. It was therefore difficult for powwow organizers to determine accurately the number of people who would attend. (The ratio tended to be around 50%; if 20 expressed interest, 10 would attend.)

Now, there is a way to "confirm" attendance. If your name appears in a powwow page, click the toggle arrows beside your name and indicate your likelihood of attending ("yes", "no" or "maybe"). If your plans change, change the attendance indicator.

In addition to this function, which all members are encouraged to use, organizers have been given a way of mailing in batches to groups of those who have expressed an interest in the powwow (ie. those with their names shown). Use this to remind people to confirm attendance, to provide more info about a powwow, to announce that a report has been posted after the event, etc.

Let us know, in this thread, if there are problems with these functions, or if you have more requests related to the powwow pages.

One question Aug 23, 2004

Sorry if I didn't understood well what you mean

In addition to this function, which all members are encouraged to use, organizers have been given a way of mailing to multiple possible attendees at once. They can use this to ask people to confirm attendance, to provide more info about a powwow, to announce that a report has been posted after the event, etc.

Organizers will be able to mail to those who have already shown some interest or to all the members living in the same country?

Thanks

Claudia

wishlist Aug 23, 2004

O.K. So that would be my #1 for my wishlist.
If it\'s not possible, there\'s a forgotten option in our profiles, in the email preferences, that could be activated:

Check this box if you would like to be alerted about translation-related events in your area. (This will only be effective if you have entered your country of residence in your profile.)

But I realize now that it\'s more or less the same, so it must represent the same amount of work.

Well, if none of these is possible, I\'d like a change in the announcement of Powwows that appears in the Home page when one is being announced.
There\'s going to be one in Chile next week, and I see:

Powwows in Chile >
Santiago

When there\'s none scheduled I see something like :There\'s no PW scheduled in your area, propose one now! (I know that these are not the exact words, I don\'t remember).

I\'d like something more attractive, like \"D day -7, subscribe now\" or anything like that, more advertising.

Thank you

Claudia

Wow! Aug 24, 2004

An excellent feature for powWow! organizers. It just shows the effort to keep making of proz.com the leader.

My 'Yes' doesn't show Aug 24, 2004

I've just used this new feature to confirm my attendance at the powwow in Central France. While it says at the top 'Confirmed:1' (that's me, because it was '0' before), there is no 'yes' in the column to the right of my name. Is this a bug? Can anyone else see my 'yes'?

there's a slightly differently coloured rectangle in the box (hardly perceptible) and if a mouse hovers over it, the message "will attend" is displayed. It looks as if maybe there ought to be an icon (a tick?) in the rectangle, unless it's just that the icon isn't displaying on my and your system (which sometimes happens - occasionally - for no apparent reason).

Changing powwow dates Aug 24, 2004

Hi Henry, talking about powwow functionality... I need to change a powwow date. I'm sending a group email to all interested members, and I also thought I could post a formal announcement in one of the forums. Is there any other suggestion ?
Thanks, ALE

You can change the date in the powwow page Aug 24, 2004

Hello Alejandra! Do you know that as organizer you can change the date right in the powwow page? Look for the "edit powwow info" link above the info box, to the right.

After changing the date, you can let all those interested know by using the group mail function. Let me know if anything is not clear along the way...

Looking for an eye doctor! Aug 24, 2004

Thanks for your answer Henry BUT it doesn't work OR I cannot see it...
I see an "enter powwow info" link though. Actually I tried that before posting my question, but decided not to use it 'cause I wasn't sure of what would happen if I just manually changed the date in the date field.
Have a nice day!
