Depending on how far the distance and if between major cities, you could try to use www.blablacar.fr or www.carpooling.com

I used this a lot this summer and was very good solution for sharing travel expenses and meeting new people. In fact, I even had a translation request from a guy I met car-sharing from Paris to Brussels, two years after!
