Why is it that Proz.com is suddenly filled with Google ads, some are language related, but others not at all?

Same reason as everybody else, I guess May 1, 2020

Probably for the same reason many others sell advertising space: $$$. I haven't seen any at proz.com, but I use AdBlock.

It isn't Proz staff that pick the ads to display. Google AdWords determines that dynamically.

If it can keep membership fees down, I don't mind.

I have found the reason May 1, 2020

Most probably during site maintenance the option got turned on.
To turn it off, go to your profile - settings - site settings - Site banner ads - off

Only Plus subscribers can turn them off, apparently May 1, 2020
