There is a bug in the Term Search feature. I am trying to search for all legal terminology in Spanish which contains the word "fe", a common legal term used in several different ways, but I get an error message saying "Search terms must contain at least 3 characters".

I imagine that this must be a bug, right? It would make no sense at all, from the translator's point of view, to have a lower limit of three characters on the number of characters in a search. Such a restriction

Please can someone fix this bug.

On vacation? May 8, 2007

I guess the entire tech support team must be on vacations.... Two weeks, and not even a simple acknowledgment of the problem...

Hi Stuart,

This is not a bug, but a technical restriction of our database software and hardware. Basically, changing the minimum accepted length from three characters to two characters would effectively double the hard disk size of the searchable sections of the database (which is a lot).

Also, when we did have it limited to two characters in the past, many times search results with two characters turned up non-useful results (such as returning "coffee" and "feet" if you were to search for "fe").

Although, it has been a while since we investigated reducing the number of required characters. Some of the ProZ.com databases were recently upgraded (thank you members!), so implementing a two character minimum could be a possibility. I'll look into this and get back to you here.

Best regards,
Justin
