Hi everyone,
This is probably old hat to most of you, but as a relatively new member, I\'ve only recently started bidding for jobs. I am not very clear on how the process of bidding actually works. I\'ve encountered two problems so far:
After hitting the \'submit\' button, a blank page appeared. So how do I know if my bid has gone through? Should there be some kind of confirmation message? My bid history shows nothing. Is this updated immediately or, if not, when/how frequent... See more Hi everyone,
This is probably old hat to most of you, but as a relatively new member, I\'ve only recently started bidding for jobs. I am not very clear on how the process of bidding actually works. I\'ve encountered two problems so far:
After hitting the \'submit\' button, a blank page appeared. So how do I know if my bid has gone through? Should there be some kind of confirmation message? My bid history shows nothing. Is this updated immediately or, if not, when/how frequently is this done? I don\'t want to resubmit my bid (which would mean writing the whole thing out again!) as I don\'t want to give an unfavourable/unprofessional impression to the outsourcer.
After entering my rates and submitting my bid, I am informed that there was a problem with my bid: my rates are too high for the job and \'community rates\' have been used instead. Does that mean my bid HAS gone through using community rates (again, no confirmation or other message) or that I need to resubmit??
Perhaps someone could outline what is SUPPOSED to happen in a successful bidding process so I can work out where I went wrong. Somebody enlighten me please. Many thanks

clicking on the bid history link on the left of the screen (under Jobs marketplace)?
Can\'t help you with your other issues, I\'m afraid, but this ought to show you if your bid has gone through and at what rate.

| You have the option to enter your rates | Jan 10, 2003 |
and in default (i.e., for a person who has not entered his rates), the community average for that combination is calculated by the computer and applied to that person. If the outsourcer has specified a lower rate, only those persons who fall within that range receive the job notification. This was designed to avoid bothering those who would not be interested in bidding for lower rates.

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I looked at the bid history and nothing showed up (but then I wasn\'t sure how quickly this is updated).
I decided to re-post my bid anyway and just added a note of apology to the ousourcer. This time, it went through ok - with a message saying something like \'ok, your bid has beed received\" – hurray, that’s what I wanted to see!

There is, though, a general point to be made here. There is no explanation anywhere on the website for how the bidding process works (prior to actually bidding). Nothing useful in FAQ, and I’ve also searched in vain in Forums. Am I misising something??

pursuant to a logic of fairness: members who had committed themselves to work within an acceptable price range could not ethically be undercut by those who had not. This implies, of course, that the community average can vary every day.

Just when I thought it was all plain sailing ... Here is what happened to me today:
A new job was posted, I decided to bid and clicked on \'submit bid\'. The bid form page was excrutiatingly slow to load and eventually displayed only a blank page. Never mind, I thought to myself, and tried to reload the page several times (in fact, I\'ve been trying to bid - unsucessfully - for the last 4 hours!). No luck. Never mind, I thought to myself, and tried to reload the page several times (in fact, I\'ve been trying to bid - unsucessfully - for the last 4 hours!). No luck. In the meantime, the bids received by the outsourcerer mount up, leaving me more and more frustrated. What do I do? Should I just give up on the assumption that I won\'t get the job anyway, even if my bid does eventually go through (as no. 427?), should I keep trying? Is it a technical glitch that needs fixing by the proz technical wizards?
Any advice gratefully received.
