I joined ProZ.com in August after finding a translation via a Google search and immediately decided to become Platinum member. Since then, I have been using ProZ.com on a daily basis, both for asking and answering questions. Being part of this fascinating network is great.

I spent a lifetime in Human Resources in international organizations, for the last 12 years as Head of Human Resources at American Express Bank in Germany.

After retiring at age 65+ end of 2004 I set up a freelance business "HR Services", but todate translating (English to German, sometimes German to English) proved to be more successful.

"Outside translating" is difficult for me, because "Outside HR" was --- translating.
Together with my wife Helga I have translated several major English rose books into German and, in addition, written two books on camellias. So roses and camellias are my field of expertise outside translating.

Ah, there are two grandsons, Valentin (3) and Adrian (1) for whom I love to be grandfather.

Best regards

Klaus

I´ve been a member for four or five years, but I haven´t been a very frequent visitor, basically because I could never find the time to check the site out, really see what it´s all about and get more involved. But after going to the powwows, and meeting the real people, sharing experiences and having so much fun I decided I wanted to make the most of the site and try to contribute in any way I could in return.

I´m an Engl-Spa Literary,Technical and Sworn Translator, and I´m currently studying to become a Spanish reviser. I´ve been working as a freelance translator in companies for twenty years, mostly in marketing, management, software, human resources and business. I also coordinate language training courses and develop self-study books.

I´m a compulsive reader,I love swimming, cycling, traveling by car, listening to music (I´m a Beatles fan), meeting friends and being in contact with nature as much as I can.

Thank you!

All my best

Hello! Despite not being a full-time translator I have been a Platinum member for a few months.
My "main" job has been in the airline industry for over 17 years, but the increasing crisis in this sector led me to start looking for other options a few years ago. Step by step translating has become more than just a supplementary income: it is really the job I enjoy most, so much that I am thinking that in the next couple of years it could become my main source of earning.

As for Platinum membership, after a few months learning about the site and reading forums I opted for part-Platinum, and soon after that I upgraded to full membership and also attended my first Powwow. It was my way of saying thanks to a great marketing tool and to an excellent learning opportunity and, believe me, the investment paid back immediately!

Although I love translating, what I really enjoy is sailing: very few things compare to the happiness I feel when I am sailing with my friends or racing with my team (see pictures in my "personal" profile tab)!

Ciao DZ

Hi everybody!

My name is Marina Lara Petersen and I'm from Tres Arroyos, a city in the South of Buenos Aires province, Argentina.

I graduated as a sworn translator (EnglishSpanish) in the Catholic University of Argentina, a couple of years ago. I worked as inhouse translator in an agency and now I'm working as a freelancer.

I joined PROZ last year and I became Platinum last week.

See you!

I have worked for the South African Embassy for 11 years as a consular assistant (and did loooots of translations there,) then left to do "something different"... and became an air hostess, then a Spanish/English/Italian tour guide in Buenos Aires, then worked for Prudential Insurance (in BA too), then for a shipping company... and then returned to the SA Emb for three more years until the opportunity came up to change to the EU Delegation here in BA.
In 2004 I started my course in Translation at UADE (Universidad Argentina de la Empresa) and I've just successfully completed my second year.
I'm very happy to have found this site because it helps me with my studies and my work, and I constantly learn from other colleagues' contributions.
Henry, I would like to thank you for the chance you gave us to become Platinum, but most of all for putting into practice the great idea you had - many people have ideas that remain in their minds, you had the courage to go further and share it with us!
Best regards to you and your brother Patrick, be careful, you might lose him to an Argentine girl if he keeps on coming here!

Well, I finally made the best decision, and participated in the program in Buenos Aires. It was necessary to re adjust my calendar and plans to be with my family that week end.

My decision was totally rewarded after the productive program: as those who attended were charming people, sharing job experiences fine wine with a Japanese flavour, hearing nice music, and we all enjoyed laughing a lot.

After Patrick speech about the Proz Site translated by Jose Luis, I decided to become a platinum member... I really appreciate the whole services that ProZ site brings me and others.

Thank you again for the experience and opportunity to learn more about the Proz site.

The English language has been part of my life since I was 10 years old... (long ago!) so you can imagine how I love my profession and how I wish to become a full time freelancer. Since graduation in 1997, I’ve been involved in the medical and pharmaceutical fields either working as a translator or as a CEO´s bilingual secretary in different companies. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to travel to the US to study in Florida and also to attend the AACC meeting in 2001 in San Fransico. I’m now looking forward to improve my skills as regards my speciality fields and increase my work in that area (and income $$ haha!!)
I’m glad to be part of this community where I can count on others as they can count on me. Thank you for your effort and hard work for making this site a better place for translators!
Regards, Marian

Hi Henry! Thanks for this wonderful site. It´s great to have a place for the solitary translator and it´s great help for beginners like me.
I´m a pretty new sworn translator so I don´t have much exerience. I´ve done and still do translations related to: foster care, literary translation, organizational communication and consulting firms, mainly. I´m not a fulltime translator but I really hope to become one soon. That´s why I´ve chosen to become Platinum.

I´m investigating in the field of comparative grammar (English- Spanish) at the National University of La Plata and I really found that we, translators, can benefit a great deal from the recent research done in that field.
I love languages (I´m trying to brush up my French these days)I like poetry (and try to write some of my own), I dance tango with my boyfriend and I adore nature. What else?, I also practise yoga and strongly recommend it(especially to translators)!!!
Ok. I think that´s almost enough!
See you (read you)!

In last October, I finally decided to go platinum, and am now trying to become more active in this wonderful community you have created.
What do I do besides translation? When I’m not sitting in front of my computer, you mean?... I share all the time I can with my family and friends, I read (almost anything) and listen to music (mainly good rock, R&B and classical), take care of my many plants, try to help homeless animals, work as a volunteer for a home for mentally disabled people...
Oh, and I am a vegetarian!

And what about you?

Thank you very much,
M.

P.D.: I am a woman, and I am NOT Japanese! I chose this funny reading dragon (because I'm a dragon in the Chinese Horoscope) when I first became a Proz member, and I wouldn't like to change it --that's why you can't see my photo here. My real name is Rosa Corgatelli, but "Mitsuko" is what all my family and many of my friends have always called me (it's a long story...).

I am a teacher of English, a translator, and a mother of three. When the third one was born, my family (and I) needed me to keep a watchful eye on so many chicks. So translation sort of outweighed teaching and I established my translation bunker at home. Looking back, I couldn't have done better! I love the profession.
I specialise in business, banking, insurance and money markets. (I have a "reliable informant" in my bed.)
