While looking for a term, I came across an answer given by a translator who I know sadly passed away fairly recently. I looked at his profile, and it is as before. I believe the profile should remain, but I think it would maybe be a good idea for a note to be added to the profile. Why? Well, both fellow translators and potential clients contact me from my profile page. I hope this suggestion doesn't sound insensitive. I am fully in favour of their profiles remaining on the site, but I think that it should at least be made clear that the person is no longer alive. ▲ Collapse

Hi Timothy,
Please let the site staff (via Support Request) know about the member.
There is a system of not removing profiles of deceased members, but marking them In Memoriam - thus all their contributions are left and collegues and clients can remember them. Like here: http://www.proz.com/translators/3526
Best,
Magda

I had a look at Uve's In Memoriam and it seems insufficient to me. In the next 50 years (Long live Proz!!!) nobody will know if his contributions were really valuable if you don't give the years of his experience and his specialisations. We remember him - what about the future generations?

In Memoriam

I agree with Magda. I also looked at the referenced profile and found it insufficient. I feel that the profile should remain complete as it was (including the picture or logo, if any) with the phrase "In Memoriam" in an appropriate font with perhaps the day of his or her passing underneath the phrase.

Now I've seen the "In Memoriam", I don't fancy telling the staff who it is. I think their profile should be left below the "In Memoriam" message.
