Hm! Jun 14, 2006

Not bad idea.

A server based access to this "glossary" with Multiterm, like EUTERPE (still working?).

Regards

Fernando

What I meant, was a TRADOS-oriented server: a lot of glossary stuff is just left unused because it is as difficult to access as a printed vocabulary. If I need 5 clicks, 3 keyboard entries and 6 mouse moves (Im ballparking) to get "love" translated to "liebe" - well, then forget it. With TRADOS' Ctrl-Alt-Arrow down it's a different story.

What about other CAT formats? Jun 15, 2006

Even the crippled CAT usage poll on ProZ tells us that a significant number of users have tools other than Trados.
(Aside: the CAT tool section has been "undergoing an update" since I first came to ProZ two years ago, and it is still not technically possible to report ownership of DVX. I put in a support request ages ago, but with no effect).

As for MultiTerm itself, how compatible are different generations with each other? I believe there are some compatibility issues between

As for MultiTerm itself, how compatible are different generations with each other? I believe there are some compatibility issues between different Trados generations.
(Question for the Trados experts, I don't know the answer.)

The issue with Wikiwords itself is more complicated. As it stands today, I would not actually want to import it - for quality reasons. This is amply illustrated by the hidden complications associated with the "Word of the day" (which picks out only one usage of the word, i.e. one "concept", but doesn't explain this to users, so it leads people to translate the wrong usage, meaning that every Word of the Day adds more dross to the Wikiwords system).

I don't know. And I don't care.

I just see another vocabulary (BIG! THE best since discovery of sliced bread) come across with some idiotic interface, making me throw the book - a cross between Merriam Webster, "The elements of Programing Style"and "How we built the Babel tower" - at the whole project.

Here's a practical test: I want to find the German translation of "Liebe" in Wikiwords:

Here's a practical test: I want to find the German translation of "Liebe" in Wikiwords:
1. click - on the Wikiwords shortcut
2. ^C to paste - plus a mouse move to paste where it belongs
3. click any language and search for German (duh...)
4. Enter - (&?$&@/xx&@!!) "No terms found" - d*n...

... forget the copy to clipboard and paste it where it belongs in my translation etc.... But you have an idea

You can boil the whole idea of interacting networks or applications down to a contract: somebody sets down, like in a contract, the API and then keeps his or her word. I personally do not have any preferences, but with TRADOS being around for quite some time and then having a half-ass*d suggestion for the vocabulary API contract, I would not mind such a solution at all. As I have MultiTerm anyhow;)

Regards
