Well, just take a look at that. Sep 18, 2006

Politics, religion and satire, all in one post. And does Tony get away with it? And is the Pope a Catholic? I, on the other hand, am censored for posting a linguistic apology for the status of Texan as a language. There ain't no justice in this world.

There sure ain't! Now if a post like that were posted on the Spanish board, he would be getting a yellow card for offensiveness for sure, or maybe even red. And here it just languishes and even gets someone to think it's funny.

My two cents on the topic and on the off-topic Sep 23, 2006

1 cent on the off-topic first: Ruth is right.

1 cent on the topic: The current poll also needs proofreading. Touchy subject, though. On the one hand, someone suggesting a poll and obliged to write in his/her 2nd, 3rd, etc. language is at a disadvantage and deserves a helping hand. On the other hand, some might be offended by being corrected and hesitate, in the future, to contribute--which would be a loss to the site and the entire community.

But back on the first hand

But back on the first hand (are you following me?), this is a site for language specialists, and a quick poll, on the home page, with grammar and syntax errors may not create the image we want.

Jane

Edited to add: I see that the spelling error in one of the responses to the current poll has now been corrected. Why was the syntax error in the question itself not corrected at the same time?
