Dear all,

this is my first time here at Proz and I reckon I probably start with a tough issue...

Never worked before with this language so I\'d like to know what the fundamental steps are to make sure there won\'t be problems with fonts with both Pagemaker and Trados.

I have been told I should have a Japanese version of Trados and a localised Windows for Japanese. Is this correct?

Thank you

Veronica

PageMaker 6.5, Japanese and Trados 5 Nov 21, 2001

Veronica,

in regards to your question, see the Trados specialist Guide Chapter 5, where handling of PageMaker files is described in more detail. If you have the Coprorate version, the Specialist guide is delivered as a manual with the software. If you have the freelance version, the specialist guide is available on the installation CD in PDF format.

Best of luck

You need the Japanese version of Windows... Nov 21, 2001

...but as far as I know, not for Trados. You need Windows, because your computer needs to handle two bit characters, otherwise you have the risk of \"moji bake\" in the process. It may work, but the risks remains that you get only black dots for the Japanese characters.

By own experience I can tell you that with some tricks (download the Windows Japanese language support; use NJWIN) you can usually display Japanese, but definitely not print.

If Trados does not support Japanese, I can recommend SDLX ($120), which definitely does.
