A new scan aimed at freelancing translators and transcribers is going around. Beware!
It goes like this:
You are contacted privately by someone from Next Wave Freelance about working for them. They say they found your contact at TranslatorsCafé or a similar website.

A new scan aimed at freelancing translators and transcribers is going around. Beware!
It goes like this:
You are contacted privately by someone from Next Wave Freelance about working for them. They say they found your contact at TranslatorsCafé or a similar website.
There is no name of whoever signs off and you could be asked to translate or transcribe something. In my case, I was supposed to transcribe an audio book in Dutch and then translate it into English. This job would take weeks to complete. The deadline is ten days and the pay is great: 5,600 British pounds. Half of this would be paid after you submit a third of the work.
I decided to play along and asked for the person’s name: Trisha Paull. There was never a contract. I submitted some of the (fake) work at some point and they transferred 2,800 pounds into my account with Next Wave Freelance, which you have to create.
Then, they supposedly transferred that amount to my PayPal account (also fake) and I received a message about my account having been credited: “Your Account has been Credited; Transaction Number: 7J4AQ2UMQI1L; Current Balance: 2,800.00 GBP;
Admin Note: Payment for completed Project”
Then a Withdrawek Request Confirmatiin followed: “We are pleased to inform you that your withdrawal request of 2,800.00 GBP via PayPal has been submitted successfully.
Refund Details:
2,800.00 GBP has been refunded to your account, and your current balance is 2,800.00 GBP.
Reason for Rejection:
Your recent withdrawal request has been temporarily rejected due to an incomplete regulatory clearance process. To proceed, a refundable deposit of 164 GBP is required to finalize the transaction. Please contact our Live Chat Support for full details on completing this refundable deposit and activating your withdrawal. Thank you for your prompt attention.”
This is where I was done wasting time and trying to figure out what the scam actually is. I guess they want you to pay them money somehow and then never pay you back or - if you really did all that work - they would never pay you for the bogus job.
This company has a website that looks professional and has doctored reviews for their company somehow to build credibility. Be careful when dealing with Nextwaverfreelance.org. They are a fake company and a big scam, despite the professional looking website and AI created emails and job descriptions. ▲ Collapse
