I wonder what the long-term effects would be on one's mental health caused by all the hundreds of changes a day for a professional translator switching between source and target language when working in a CAT (with source language on the left side and target on the right): I assume we all are submitted to a phenomenon I would call the MCS syndrome (Micro Cultural Shocks) you may suffer from when your brain has to switch rapidly between the languages (which represent foreign cultures, we shouldn'... I wonder what the long-term effects would be on one's mental health caused by all the hundreds of changes a day for a professional translator switching between source and target language when working in a CAT (with source language on the left side and target on the right): I assume we all are submitted to a phenomenon I would call the MCS syndrome (Micro Cultural Shocks) you may suffer from when your brain has to switch rapidly between the languages (which represent foreign cultures, we shouldn't forget that) and for a prolonged time. Any who would start a quick poll on that topic? Any chance to sue the translation industry for MCS for the long-term effects? How do you experience these effects and in what language combinations in your CAT? I assume the impact of MCS would be stronger the farther the distance between the cultures would be [e.g. between Portuguese (Portugal) and Portuguese (Brazil) or German (Germany) and German (Austria)]. ▲ Collapse
