I got a visit from the Directory almost twice a week too.
I may be on the first or second page in some specialties, but not high anyway.
None of them contacted me.
I monitor the Visitors tab on a regular basis to see the kind of keywords used and countries involved. Out of curiosity only, not with any precise purpose.

Anyway, I've never landed a job through ProZ.

I get two or three visits a week through the directory, less than half of which translate into actual requests to bid on a specific job. I am part of the Kudoz top 10 in only two of my specialist fields, but not all of my directory hits involve searches for which I am even on the first page of the directory, which is surprising and shows that some outsourcers will go through several pages before consulting profiles.

I have had a few interesting jobs offered to me from outsourcers who found me in the directory. In all of these cases, the outsourcer was looking for a translator with knowledge in a very specific field (and probably spent a lot of time sorting through profiles before contacting anyone).
As an aside, when I check my visitors tab, I often see outsourcers (and occasionally others) who come from "Other". I tried to do a forum search on this, but I was unable to come up with an answer (although I'm sure that it has been asked before). So, does anyone know what coming from "Other" actually means?
Best,

I lack the patience to make statistics out of this information, but I get several visits from the Directory some days, and some days no visits. On average, I'd say three-four visitors from the Directory every week.
It is interesting to see how many of these visitors were looking for something specific, like a country location (a majority of them) and specialisation in one of my areas (about half of them). | |

and a total of 314 visitors in the last 30 days, but I have to say my visitor's tab is a bit clouded, since I posted on a forum on my birthday, and subsequently loads of freelancers visited my profile to have a look at the little birthday cake, I guess.
I'm on the first page of the directory for my main specialties and both my language pairs: I'd say on average half of the outsourcers that find my profile through the directory actually contact me about projects.

and 6 visits since September 1st.
Bearing in mind that my profile has been visited 1034 times in the last 30 days, the number of visits through Directory is quite small, almost negligible...
Kind regards,

That reminds me that I used to have a majority of outsourcers, too, looking for German translators in my country (!!!). I was so unnerved that I decided to move nowhere in my profile and hence for the directory and Google. It was clear indeed that they looked only for hopefully low prices.:-P
Yes, I am among the top 10 for most of my specialities (rather common ones, I think, no IT nor finance e.g.) and for my main LP.
Until some months ago, I have been, for several years, a community member and not listed in the directory (or at least listed in a different way). I didn't notice any substantial increase of visits nor contacts since then. | | | Stanislaw Czech, MCIL CL United Kingdom Local time: 07:10 Ahli (2006) Bahasa Inggeris hingga Bahasa Poland + ... Hi,
Thank you for taking time to reply.
I agree that 1 visit may e disappointing, still I believe that visits through the profile are more valuable than those coming let's say from Google. At least I receive many hits like these:
- bilingual, official, tekst, polish, english
- sprzęt, gospodarstwa, domowego, translation, english
- how, much, does, polish, interpreter, charges, an, hour
I can hardly expect those people to become my clients while people coming from the directory are at least looking for a translator rather than translation.
Cheers

Since my last post in this thread I have gained some points and moved from the bottom of the first page (or top of the second I am not sure which) to approximately middle of the first page (for the most general search for translators from English to Polish) and from what I see number of visitors from Directory increased from 1 or 2 a week to approximately 1 a day.
So after all there is palpable correlation between position in the directory and number of entries.
