Hi!
I read something similar a while ago but couldn't find the thread, so I'm opening a similar one, since I believe it is an important issue.
I noticed that Medicine is divided in Medicine (heath) and Medicine (general). What is the difference? I don't see the point in so many divisions... Probably Medicine (general), Pharmaceuticals, Medical instruments and Dentristry. It doesn't make much sense to have cardiology but not other specific areas (urology, for example).... See more Hi!

Probably Medicine (general), Pharmaceuticals, Medical instruments and Dentristry. It doesn't make much sense to have cardiology but not other specific areas (urology, for example).
Besides, since we have to choose a maximum of 10 specialization fields, it seems redundant to choose Medicine (health) and Medicine (general) Probably most medical translation can handle both areas , and many probably even pharmaceuticals...
This affects not only the number of specializations one can choose, but also the ranking in the directory, as points are split.
What do you think? Can anyone give me a good explanation for this division?
Thanks!

Maybe? I actually read it that way, and in fact did not choose "health" because I dont' really want to deal with insurance issues, so I do see it as different from clinical medicine, but I could be wrong. | | | Marina Aleyeva Israel Local time: 11:02 Ahli (2006) Bahasa Inggeris hingga Bahasa Rusia + ...
I completely agree with you Elizabeth. I believe there should be fewer fields, not just in Medicine but in other areas as well. Also, isn't the word "general" (as in "Medical (general)") a bit misleading? People might think one only translates general medical texts and cannot do specialised ones.

I fully agree with Elisabeth and Marina. That does not only apply to the medical field, but to technology, my main subject field. You find, for example, engineering (general) and engineering (industrial); on the other hand something like surface treatment is missing.
From time to time I have a look at my profile here and contemplate how to choose the right areas.
