I am one of the scored bidders, though I entered the page to tell this man the bare truth: no Spanish in Brazil at all...
Perhaps other people did the same...

I tried that too... May 26, 2005

I also tried through the bid link, but I don't think it went through because I did not fill in all the required fields.

I would also submit that a feature that would allow us to give feedback or ask questions to those offering jobs might be helpful. In a case like this who cares? But there are other cases in which a person may like to bid but would first like some clarifications.

No Spanish in Brazil... And I don't believe they're looking for Portuñol either... May 27, 2005

I've worked for this company that posted a "Brazilian Spanish" project and I contacted them directly by email. I don't know if they got the message, but I hope they keep in mind from now on that we only speak Portuguese in Brazil. Dialects? Well, only if you consider the accents from the South (with some European influence, such as German and Dutch), the Southeast (where I come from, with a mix that goes from Italian to African influences), the Northeast (with strong accent on the vowels), and t... Well, only if you consider the accents from the South (with some European influence, such as German and Dutch), the Southeast (where I come from, with a mix that goes from Italian to African influences), the Northeast (with strong accent on the vowels), and the North and Center (where there many native tribes remain). Apart from that, there would be some influence right on the border with Latin American countries where they do speak Spanish, but it does not justify the existense of a Spanish spoken in Brazil. Well, if they email me back and let me know what they meant by that, I'll come back here and let you guys know...Collapse

I sent them an email May 27, 2005

Hi, all,

I sent them an email telling them I find their posting really amazing, and letting them know, in case they are not aware of it, that the official language in Brazil is Portuguese.

Have a good day!

Contact Jobs moderators May 27, 2005

Hi all,
As we have pointed out in various discussions in the past, it would be preferable to contact a Jobs moderator in the case of obvious errors.

I have removed the job, asking the outsourcer to repost with the correct language pair. Given the time of the job posting, it would have been possible to get the correct assignment posted last night. Obviously, a discussion such as this one is more fun, but contacting Jobs mods is more efficient, I think.

I am also a bidder and did just the same: tell him there was a big mistake there... And it is a language company!, which makes it even worse...!

Inadverted error... May 27, 2005

Hello everybody,

Just for your info: I did send a message to the person that posted the project, so they knew.

They have replied: they of course knew they speak Portuguese in Brazil, just an inadverted error...

Hopefully the job is done and over with now, into Brazilian Portuguese).

Best,

Mar

For some Portugal is a province of Spain... May 27, 2005

Hello,

Sometime ago a friend of mine told me that some travel books produced in the US say Portugal is a province of Spain... so it might explain the Brazilian Spanish thing...

Well, you know... for some people translating is just a matter of placing words in a line so anyone who speaks Spanish can easily speak Brazilian because "they sound similar". Joking... but at this stage of things can't really take
