Dear Croatian translators,
With my choir, I am looking for the translation, or at least a description, of the Croatian folk song "Pod kopinom". We currently have two different versions: one that says "old mother, when you are buried under the green grass, please give me (1) your silk handkerchief / (2) your gold ring / (3) your yellow boots"; the other one is more bitter: "he must be buried under the green grass; he promised me his (1) silk handkerchief / (2) gold ring / (3) yellow boots, ... Lyrics of the song:
Pod kopinom pod zelenom tam je nje mu spavati,
obe čal mi (1) svilen robec / (2) zlaten prsten / (3) žute čižme, ne rad bi mi davati.
Ako njegva stara mati neće mi ga davati!

Explanation of some words
Sep 18, 2019
Hi,
Well, this one is a little bit difficult, it is a regional version of Croatian.
"Kopina" isn't a grass, but a blackberry plant (in a standard language it is "kupina"). "Robec" (regional version of the word "rubac") is not a handkerchief, but rather a scarf.
And regarding the two versions, the second one is more close to the meaning. It is not a mother who will be buried, but a man (son of that mother).
I hope it helps a little bit.
