Instructions for use of concrete release agent
I'm working on a text that contains instructions for the use of a concrete release agent to be sprayed onto the formwork. The German paragraph says:
"Optimale Ausschalungsergebnisse sind auch abhängig vom Einsatz der richtigen Sprühtechnik: Bitte ölen Sie die Schalung ***in Bahnen*** ein. Achten Sie dabei auf einen Abstand zwischen Düse und Schalung von 30 bis 40 cm."
I've thought of "apply the agent in (separate) courses" but am not too sure (UK English required). Imagine a formwork panel in a vertical position - the instructions say that the agent should be sprayed onto its surface from top to bottom at a width of, say, half a metre, then continue with the next "course" and so on.

Formwork is usually coated with release agent before it is erected, i.e. in the horizontal position. Otherwise you get release agent on the reinforcement (undesirable). The manufacturer would like it applied evenly. Hence working in widths of "what you can apply waving the spray lance around in one hand while walking 'down' the formwork" ensures no area is missed or coated more times than the rest. Otherwise the concrete can look patchy.
